Currently - July

This is my first "Currently" link up with Farley. I'm excited about linking up and reading more of other bloggers' currently posts! They are so much fun to read!!!

Listening:
I've been listening to Dave Ramsey on the free podcasts a lot for the last few months! We read "The Total Money Makeover" and are currently working Dave's plan to be debt free. I listen to the podcast in the car and even when I run!!! My husband thinks I'm crazy that I would rather listen to a talk show while running than music. :)

Loving:
This last month I decided to try out the whole Annie Sloan paint craze that is going on right now. After doing a small table in my entryway, I decided to paint our china cabinet! I was so nervous about doing the china cabinet because it was pretty already, but it just wasn't the style I wanted anymore. After the first coat I was definitely second guessing myself! But then in the end, I absolutely LOVED how it turned out!!!

Thinking:
I feel like I have so much to do this summer before going back to work and not enough time to do it all! I'm wanting my blog to be made over (waiting on this to be done), I have a few more painting projects for the summer, Gracie June's birthday party is in 2 weeks and I'm so behind on making stuff for the party, I want to take my kids to the a few more outings this summer, and I have a few more things I want to make for my classroom before going back. Oh AND go through my clothes, my kids' clothes, and my husbands clothes and DONATE them!!!

Wanting:
I really want to do a girl's day at the pool soon WITHOUT the kiddos!!! I LOVE spending time with my kids, but I really need a day soon to just relax and have some girl talk where we can get a whole conversation in at ONE time. haha! I just want to sit by the pool and drink a margarita with my girls!!!!

Needing:
This kind of goes along with what I'm thinking, but I NEED MORE SUMMER to get my stuff done!!! And it's SO hot when we go back to work. Ok, I know I'm complaining, but I do LOVE spending time with my babes. I mean how stinkin' cute are they?!?!

All-star:
I feel like I'm an all-star helper/sharer. I say this because I LOVE to help others. If someone asks me for help, there's no saying NO. I just love the way it feels when you help someone. I also LOVE to share with others. I love sharing things that I've made, ideas that I find, or even materials. It just feels great to make other happy and less stressed. :)

I hope you enjoyed reading my "Currently" post. If so, I hope you'll leave me a comment and consider following my blog! Even though I have had the blog for a few years, I haven't done a GREAT job at posting often. I have kept up with my personal blog over at Team Darley, but it's been tough have two babies the last few years and keeping up with two blogs. It is a goal of mine to keep up with this blog and make sure to share all of the great things that I've found and my experiences as a teacher.

ELA Workbook and Assessments

I've been super busy working on a workbook to use when teaching grammar in ELA. I just don't have a student workbook that is worth using, so I decided to create one myself. It took a while, but I finally finished it! You can find in my TPT store.

In this packet, you will find all of the common core skills for 2nd grade grammar as well as an assessment to go with each unit. There is also an answer key to make it even easier for us teachers.

I'm so excited about using this packet in my classroom this year! I hope it can make planning easier for all my 2nd grade friends out there!!! (You could probably even use it to supplement 1st or 3rd grade standards if you wanted)

Chalkboard Alphabet Posters

Just made these SUPER CUTE chalkboard alphabet posters to hang in my classroom this year! I can't wait to laminate them and put them up! I will come back and update with pictures of them in my classroom as soon as I can get in there to put them on the wall!!

You can grab a set for yourself at my TPT Store :)

Hope everyone's having a great summer! I know I am!!!! :)

Fairy Tale Ball

Here are some pictures from our annual Fairy Tale Ball:

I think this is my favorite activity that we do all year!!! It's funny because every year, at the beginning of the school year, one of the first things my new 2nd graders ask about is "when is the fairy tale ball?" It's hilarious! They have to wait ALL.YEAR.LONG to dress as princesses and princes! We had so much fun this year.

We always learn about the genres of Fairy Tales and Folk Tales for a few weeks. We do LOTS of comparing and contrasting. And my kids LOVE using the Fairy Tale Activity Set from my TPT store. It is packed with writing opportunities and center activities for the kids.

Like I said, this is my favorite activity all year!!!

GA Day Parade

In Georgia, we have the annual GA Day Parade, which is held in our beautiful city of Savannah, to celebrate the founding of GA. It's sooo neat to be able to teach in Savannah, because the students all across Georgia learn all about how Savannah was the first settlement in GA. They learn about Tomichichi, James Oglethorpe, and Mary Musgrove. It's so neat to be able to take field trips down to the squares to see the statues and places dedicated to these historical figures.

Here are some pictures of our kids on GA Day. They can choose to dress as colonial people or Native Americans:

The only thing that stinks is that it's pretty cold every year on GA Day, so all of their cute costumes get covered up by jackets and hats! Oh well, it's still tons of fun!

Chinese New Year Field Trip

Since we studies the Chinese New Year in class, one of our amazing gifted teachers planned a trip to a Chinese restaurant to end our unit. The kids had a blast!

I've never seen my students eat so much!!! haha!!

Adjectives and Marshmallow Math

We have been having fun this first month of school.

In Social Studies, we always start out the year learning about the regions and rivers. Here is our rap song on the Georgia Regions:

Once again, we are learning about adjectives. My kids had so much fun using Abby's Let's Get Pop Rockin' pack to teach about adjectives. The kids were very creative!

We also did a little Marshmallow math from my Place Value Fun Unit.  The kids always have so much fun learning with food! They caught on very quickly.

This school year has gotten off to a good start. I think my kids are finally starting to understand my expectations. I am looking forward to a great school year!
