What the Teacher Wore

This is my 2nd time blogging on my "teacher outfits".  I don't claim to have any fashion sense at all!!! But I can Pin from Pinterest and copy haha! So I hope you like what I have to share…

I decided I would use the mirror this week…

Monday:

Got this dress from The Mint Julep Boutique last year… I love their stuff!!! Michael Kors watch.

Tuesday:

Old Navy everything here… Sam Edelman sandals, Michael Kors watch.

Wednesday:

Once again, Old Navy pants and shirt.
Thursday:

Old Navy cardigan and pants, Express top, target shoes, Ralph Lauren bracelet, not sure about the long necklace (I've had for years), and the silhouette necklace is from Etsy (my sweet baby boy's little silhouette).

Friday:

Classroom Tour 2015

Excited to give an updated tour of my classroom for the 2015/2016 school year. So here we go :)

From the door looking in:

First stop in the room is my teacher desk. I love my little mailbox that I made for the side of my desk. The kids just know to put any money, notes, etc. in the mailbox when they come in every morning.

My bulletin board keeps all of my important info., birthdays, schedules, and pictures of my LOVIES.

I love the little storage shelf that my husband made for me this summer. It fits perfectly under my desk. I store my teacher binders, workbooks that I copy from frequently, and books I use for special lessons underneath my desk.

Here is a closer look…

This is next to my desk. The hanging files is where I organize my copies that I copy weekly for newsletters and such, my parent contact logs, RTI data folders, and my Sub folder. I need to get a curtain up to hide the stuff under the table (maybe one day).

Front of my room. I LOVE my new alphabet chart that I made!!! You can find it in my TPT store :)

Another little storage shelf for my group caddies and more supplies that we use on a regular basis.

Most of my math manipulatives can be found on this shelf, plus my "cubbies" for tests, my "Going Home Basket", lunch basket, and "Shout Outs".

My bookshelf behind my desk.

My teacher toolbox and that ADORE!!!!! This has definitely been a great purchase.

This is where I keep my weekly copies for each subject. I have the copies in order so I know to grab the first one on top.

This is the back of my classroom. The cubbies are used to store math boxes, copy paper, and books. On top I have my crates that are full of resources and centers that I use in each subject area. I also have chart paper, magazines, and clickers at the top.

Here is where I keep all my small group centers for math, which are organized by skill. I keep my centers in gallon sized ziploc bags, with all materials and a direction sheet inside.

Here is the back of my room where my sink is (that we do not use AT ALL!!!). I still have some supplies to put up, so excuse the mess.

On the cabinets, I have these adorable posters that I got from Amy Lemons over at Step Into 2nd Grade, FOR FREE!!!! They are soooo stinkin' cute. They will be used for tracking AR points throughout the year and as an incentive for taking tests.

Here is where I post my standards… it's blah… maybe I will make it look better sometime this year :)

This is my behavior chart (can't remember where I found it, but it was also free) and then the Daily 5 chart from Mel D. at Seusstastic. She has some AMAZING Daily 5 resources.

Here is my reading area. The books that are too big for the tubs are out and just on the bookshelf.

This is where I took two filing cabinets, put them back to back, and made a big magnetic board. I put fabric over the top and did my scrunchy bulletin board paper border with hot glue. I have my BOGGLE Board and my 100 Points Club for Class Dojo posted on this board rich now. I am thinking I will add something else later, but haven't figured that out yet.

Here is my class jobs chart. I purchased the adorable chart from Allyson Sutton on TPT. This is one of my favorite things in my classroom.

Here is my listening center and Phonics board. We meet hear every day to do phonics, read alouds, and the students do listening center here as well.

Here are all of my Daily 5 supplies and other supplies that we use on a regular basis.

I hope you enjoyed my classroom tour!!! Please leave comments or questions! I will be doing several blog posts about what I do in different corners of my classroom. Can't wait to see all the tours!!!

Open House 2015

This year definitely got off to a crazy start. Let me tell you my story...

So the week before it was back to work for teachers, I went to the eye doctor because I noticed my vision had been blurry... For a WHILE I noticed this, but kept putting off going to the eye doctor. So I finally went and the eye doctor told me I needed to see a retina specialist.

I went to the retina specialist on Monday and found out that my retina had detached. I had no peripheral vision on the left side of my eye! It was sooo freaky to find this out! The retina had been detached for a while and a cyst formed in my eye which made my vision even worse. He scheduled me for surgery that Thursday.

I had surgery on Thursday and pretty much laid in the bed for 4 straight days! That Monday was our first preplanning day and I still felt bad so I didn't make it to work. Tuesday was our Open House/ Meet the Teacher night. I was literally at the school from 7:15am-6:15pm... The next morning I woke up and felt like I had been beaten in the face with a baseball bat. It was awful!!!! So I stayed home from work another day.

The next day, Thursday, was the first day of school. I went in for half the day and had to get a substitute for the 2nd half of the day (can you believe it???? A sub the first day of school??? How crazy is that right???)

The 2nd day of school I had my follow up appointment with the retina specialist, so guess what, I had a substitute the 2nd day of school too!!!!! Talk about a crazy start to the school year.

I rested the whole weekend and went back to work on Monday.

My eye is super sensitive to light, so everything is crazy bright. I can not fully see out of my eye yet and it will probably take from 6-8 weeks before I get my vision back completely in that eye. I have had LOTS of headaches and some to the point that I get very nauseas and have to lay down. BUT I'm super blessed and every day is getting better. I'm able to drive now after 2 long weeks of depending on others to tote me around.

Thank The Lord, I have such an amazing husband!!! He has done sooo much these last few weeks. We have a 4 yr old and a 2 yr old, that I was unable to pick up, play around with, cuddle with, and pretty much do anything with for a whole week!!! He did it all! He has taken them to school/daycare every day since my surgery. He even helped me in my classroom before and after my surgery. I am beyond blessed to have this man as my partner in life!!!

Ok enough about my eye... Here are my open house pics:

Hubby helping right before (acting like he doesn't LOVE being in my classroom doing teacher stuff):

Front of the room:

Kids' desks (they get to pick their desk and write this name on a sticky note to choose their spot):

Open house gifts for the kids:

View from the door:

I met lots of great kids and parents, who were soooo understanding about my eye. They were all so sweet and I got to hear about a billion pirate jokes throughout the day and night. Looking forward to a great school year with my new sweeties.

Bulletin Boards Linky

This month we are linking up #together to talk about bulletin boards. Unfortunately all of my bulletin boards are empty right now, but I do have some pictures to show you and a little TUTORIAL on how to make cute and FREE bulletin board borders.

To do my borders all I needed was bulletin board paper, stapler, hot glue gun (if you would rather hot glue your border on - I did on top of other borders), and scissors.

First cut your bulletin board paper into strips like this:

Next, crumple all of your strips up so they look like this (you can do longer strips than I did if you want).

Next, staple around your bulletin board (this is my fake bulletin board that I'm in the process of putting up, which is made from a plastic table cloth!). I just scrunch and staple, scrunch and staple, scrunch and staple.

Here is my bulletin board after border is up:

Anyone that REALLY knows me, knows that I'm sooo not a perfectionist! So this was the perfect bulletin board border for me! It was quick and FREE! And most importantly it's soooo cute!
Here are all of my bulletin boards that I've done with this border:

This bulletin board used to be for class work display, but this year I plan to use it for our class jobs board. I'll come back and update with a picture soon!

I love "MY" bulletin board. I keep the kids birthdays (we write their names and the day of the month their birthday is on, on top of vinyl and just stick them on the cupcakes). I also keep my pictures of my kids, my schedules, and other important info. on this board for quick reference.

My phonics board usually has all our letters, phonics tiles, and anchor charts we are using.

I just put this wall quote up this week for my hallway bulletin board. As you can see in the picture, I tried to put up a plastic tablecloth to use as bulletin board paper, but I don't think it's going to work on this wall. I will either use fabric or regular bulletin board paper. But I do LOVE my quote! I made it with vinyl using my Silhouette.

Wish I had more to show you, but I will definitely be blogging about my bulletin boards throughout the year, so come back to check it out!
